Attend July 20 hearing The fact that Ventura County is having difficulty meeting California state housing requirements is not justification enough to approve the zoning change requested by Colton Lee Communities, LLP. The proposed development must make sense and 250 apartments do not belong in this area of the Santa Susana Knolls. The local residents are not opposed to the development of this land. They only want the development be consistent with the current zoning in the area. This same land was previously approved for a zoning change that would allow the building of approximately 54 homes. Building homes and designating a percentage as affordable housing would add the affordable housing that is needed in Ventura County and would not destroy the rural atmosphere of an entire neighborhood. Are apartments the only answer? I don't think so and neither do my neighbors. Is the developer motivated by a sense of duty to provide this kind of development or is an apartment complex more profitable? Residents have a right to preserve their way of life in their neighborhood and I encourage everyone who is concerned about this issue to attend the hearing before the Board of Supervisors on July 20.
