Wrong place I'm sure Gilbert Beezley has never been to the Santa Susana Knolls. This is the last place 250 apartments, affordable or not, should be placed. The work force and farmworkers who need these rental units will all have to have cars since the bus line is about three miles from this community, and if we need housing for farmworkers, it should be built near farms. There are no farms left in Simi Valley. Ventura County General Plan Manager Bruce Smith was quoted in The Star June 24, ("Knolls apartment plan has many foes"), saying that the county has been on track for its affordable housing goals. He went on to state that long-range goals looked promising in regard to available land. This property in the Santa Susana Knolls is zoned rural in the county's general plan. The landowner and developer can build homes on rural zoning right now. Homes that fit the area should be built on this property. The people of this community do not undermine every project in their neighborhood. We just want to see that proposed projects are consistent with the county's general plan and Guidelines for Orderly Development. The county has these guidelines in place so the county can grow in an orderly manner. I suggest Mr. Beezley read these important documents so he can become familiar with orderly growth. -- Marie Mason, Santa Susana Knolls |
